The hardships the Sahaabah endured

The Mushrikeen of Makkah showed no mercy in their relentless torture of the Muslims in Makkah. Hadhrat Bilaal (Radiallhu anhu) was forced by his master Umayyah bin Khalaf to lie on the burning sands in scorching heat with a boulder placed upon his chest. He was also tied in chains and whipped to persuade him to forsake Islaam. However, he kept saying, “Ahad (the One)! Ahad (the One)!” Hadhrat Ammaar bin Yaasir (Radiallhu anhu) and his parents were also tortured pitilessly until both parents were martyred in this way. All Rasulullaah (Sallahu alayhi wasallam) could do as he witnessed their suffering was to exhort them to persevere with the promise of Jannah. Both the affluent and the paupers amongst the Sahabah (Radiallhu anhum) were tortured to persuade them to forsake Islaam, but none of them did. May Allah Ta'ala be pleased with them all.
